Assalam O Alaikum friends
As I mentioned in last post, today I would talk about the procedure of Study at Virtual University.
After you have got admission in VU by filling online application form, printing it and attaching the required documents as mentioned on application form and posting it to VU Head office in Lahore or submitting it to nearest VU campus, you will be informed about your admission in an email from concerned department with your
VULMS id, password. Point to be noted here is that the same
id@vu.edu.pk is your email address which can be logged in using
gmail and same would be the password set by Virtual University IT department.
Now as you have got your VU ID and password, you may login to VULMS and get updates about your courses. All subjects are listed on the homepage and current lecture number is mentioned there. Current lesson no is increased on the basis of Lecture Schedule that in mentioned in VULMS. This schedule is not just to show the current lesson but the time of lecture is also mentioned there which is basically the time on which specific lecture will be on air on VU TV channels. If you have not bought the DVDs and you do not have access to Internet at your home, all you need to do is to get this schedule and attend the lectures on your TV. Most cable operators provide VU TV channels otherwise you can ask them to do so. If you have any problem regarding TV channels you can contact VU.
If you have Internet at your home, you can find these lectures on
Youtube,
Tune.pk,
vutube etc. If you do not have internet you should visit VU campus regularly to stay updated with quizes, assignments and GDB (Graded Discussion Board) opened which are usually open for more then 1 day (sometimes only for 1 day) and are notified few days before they are opened. Student has to submit such activity within the given time frame. This provides students with a flexibility to manage their study plan in case they are lagging with VU schedule due to any reason.
(I will share details of these activities in my next post)
Then there is a mid term exam after half lectures of every course are completed. The mid term exam consist of around 40 MCQs and 10 long questions (the number may vary a little with total between 40-55 questions) and a time of 1 hour. Time allocated for each question is mentioned on the screen but it is not necessary that you should complete it in the same time whereas total time is of more importance.
After mids, again there are graded activities while completing the rest of the course and then at last there is a final examination. The final examination has a time of 2 hours and there are about 40-50 MCQs and 10-20 Long questions The total vary between 55-65.
Another interesting thing here is that for both mid term and final examinations, students are allowed to make their own
Date Sheets and they can select the exam time and date slot from the available slots for each campus. This helps a student to take as many vacations between difficult subjects and keep the easy subject exam on the same day if easy. The restriction is just the range of days in which exams should be completed and is based on come first get first policy. So when you find that exams on a distance of one month, keep checking notice board and
datesheet.vu.edu.pk
Best of luck new comers. I will post more about VU in upcoming posts and you may ask me anything in comments.
Take care
